Pedestrian or bicycle traffic along public roads in the area is very dangerous and STRONGLY DISCOURAGED. These rural roads have poor lighting and no shoulders or walking paths.
According to Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller, many people who attended the previously scheduled Luke Bryan concert did not follow posted guidelines.
“A lot of signs and a lot of maps were put out, but people generally don’t follow them,” Fuller said. “They’ll type in the address on their phone and expect to be able to follow that and not the maps that we put out there, and so we found a lot of people trying to go the wrong way. We’re gonna work to help people understand that, but honestly when they start looking at their phone, they’re not paying attention to anything else.”
Traffic and pedestrian congestion also caused issues.
“People thought that they would walk in from all over the place believing that being out in the middle of the country was not gonna be a problem,” Fuller said. “The two-lane roads are an issue for people trying to walk along those roads when there is traffic lined up on both sides of the road trying to figure out how to get someplace.”
Attendees are asked to follow the designated routes in order to avoid these issues again. Please see the attached map for more information about the routes.
