KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo County employees are getting a few more paid holidays.
In addition to the usual holidays, on Tuesday County Commissioners voted to add New Years Eve Day, Veterans Day, Martin Luther King Day, and Election Day as paid days off.
Human Resources Director Kristine Cunningham says most of the days off will take effect in a few weeks, except next month’s election day because there isn’t enough time to reschedule court dockets.
The decision came after they contacted the city of Kalamazoo and over a dozen other Michigan counties to see what paid leave holidays they have. They realized a majority of them already had these days off.
It will also mean that the public won’t have county services available on those dates.
Board Chair Julie Rogers says she’s proud to support these days off, especially election day because it gives everyone a chance to vote.
