VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office is announcing that Deputy Eric Calhoun and K9 Kuno are finalists in the Vested Interest K9 SUV sweepstakes.
Throughout the month of October, citizens can vote on different pairs of officers and K9 units. At the end of the contest, the winner will receive a brand new 2019 Chevy Tahoe fully outfitted for the K9 team.
According to an official press release, K9 Kuno and Deputy Calhoun have been partners for just over two years and are certified with the National Association of Professional Canine Handlers (NAPCH) in suspect apprehension, narcotics detection, and other areas.
Both K9 Kuno and Deputy Calhoun are trained and utilized in general road patrol and SWAT procedures.
Police also note that K9 Kuno assisted in the tracking and recovery of a 3-year-old child that walked away from home in the middle of the night and became lost in the woods last year. Deputy Calhoun and K9 Kuno located the lost boy and he was reunited with the family.
A local Battle Creek family also donated a ballistic vest to K9 Kuno in early 2019.
