LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — With cold weather in Michigan edging ever closer, Non-profit organization Michigan Saves is offering citizens tips on how to save energy and stay warm.
The organization says using interior window coverings – like insulated cellular shades and insulation film – are useful ways to preserve heat and reduce energy loss.
Citizens are also advised to switch over to LED lightbulbs. LED bulbs use 70 to 90 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs and often last 15 times longer.
Michigan Saves also says that lowering the temperature on a water heater can be a good way to save energy on money. According to the website, “By lowering your water heater’s temperature to 120 degrees Fahrenheit, you can reduce your family’s risk of burns and prevent water and heat waste. Other energy savers include using a water-efficient shower head and washing your clothes at colder temperatures.”
Until winter hits, Michigan Saves recommends keeping the thermostat at or below 68 degrees when sleeping or out of the house.
The organization says that these are all helpful tips to saving on energy this Fall before colder months set in.
