WASHINGTON (WHTC-AM/FM) – The US House Ethics Committee is reviewing complaints made against freshman Detroit Democrat Rashida Tlaib and five-term Zeeland Republican Bill Huizenga.
M-Live is reporting that Tlaib allegedly reimbursed herself from her campaign fund after the November 6th election last year in violation of Federal Election Commission regulations, while the complaint against Huizenga stems from allegations made by the state Democratic Party last year that the former state legislator didn’t properly disclose more than $41,000 in reimbursement payments made to the congressman and his family members.
In an email on Tuesday to his campaign contributors, Huizenga stated that the allegations constituted “an outrageous political attack,” saying, “In July, the Federal Election Commission’s professional staff, meaning non-partisan lawyers, found no “reasonable inference” of the Democrats accusations and the matter was dismissed…the Congressional Ethics Committee is (now) investigating the SAME thing the Federal Election Commission has already dismissed.”
Tlaib’s communications director told M-Live that the Congresswoman has “cooperated completely with the Committee to resolve the referral, which involves the same claims over her publicly disclosed salary during the campaign that conservative groups pressed back in March.”
The Ethics Committee is expected to announce its course of action by mid-November.
