UNDATED (WKZO AM/FM) – The Alliance for the Great Lakes will be hosting the annual Adopt-a-Beach Cleanup day this weekend all across the Great Lakes region.
Each year, thousands of volunteers gather on beaches across all five of the Great Lakes in order to remove litter and waste from the environment.
Data is also collected to assess what types of waste are left behind on beaches.
According to an official press release, over 85% of the beach litter collected each year is made up fully or in part of plastic.
In West Michigan, events scheduled across varying days include cleanups in the beaches of South Haven, Coloma, Benton Harbor, and St. Joseph.
