KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Arcadia Brewing Company in downtown Kalamazoo has officially stopped making beer and will soon be replaced by a new bar.
Arcadia will be replaced by a second location of the Grand Woods Lounge, which is a “resort bar” based out of Grand Rapids.
Arcadia entered foreclosure earlier this year and has since been operated by Urban Feast company at the request of First National Bank, the original lender.
Arcadia was opened by Tim Surprise in 2014.
Members of the Kalamazoo City Commission issued comments about Arcadia at a meeting last Monday.
“It’s unfortunate that the Arcadia Brewing Company did not succeed,” City Manager Jim Ritsema said.
Commissioner Urban also commented on the history of Arcadia in Kalamazoo.
“It was a risky but very wise investment,” Urban said. “What the city was trying to do was to develop an appealing area for redevelopment along the river on both sides…and [Tim Surprise] was desperate to invest.”
The news comes following the closure of Boatyard Brewing and the announcement of a buyout of Dark Horse Brewing Company.
