LANSING, MI (WJXQ) — The United Auto Workers union is on strike against General Motors, as contract talks failed to reach a tentative agreement before the most recent deal expired Saturday night.
Picket lines have popped up at Lansing’s Grand River Assembly Plant and GM’s Delta Township production facility. GM has about 4,000 auto workers in the mid-Michigan area.
The UAW is trying to get GM to continue producing some products at four plants the automaker wants to idle, with two of those in Michigan, one in Baltimore, and the other being Lordstown Assembly in Ohio.
Automotive News reports GM offered battery cell manufacturing at Lordstown and building an electric pickup at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant.
