NILES, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Niles Police officer, who was on the force for 24-years, is dead after a motorcycle crash over the weekend.
It occurred around 7 p.m. Sunday on South 17th Street near Broadway in Niles.
44-year-old Reserve Sergeant Kenny Ray was riding with another 44-year-old passenger when he swerved to try to avoid a cat that ran into the road, causing him to tip his motorcycle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and the passenger was taken to the hospital where she wast treated and later released.
Both were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
