KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) —
The Red Cross is urging citizens to donate blood in order to help victims of Hurricane Dorian.
According to an official press release, the Red Cross had previously stockpiled blood supplies in the Southeast region, however, several blood donation centers were forced to close due to the storm.
A series of blood donation days are scheduled in Kalamazoo over the next few weeks, with the next event taking place Tuesday at St. Andrew Community Church on Covington Street.
Kalamazoo Sheriff Richard Fuller is also urging Kalamazoo citizens to volunteer with the organization if possible.
“The local chapter here in Kalamazoo goes across the nation to floodings, major events, catastrophes, and sends people from this community to help out,” Fuller said. “Look at the Red Cross as a possibility of someplace that you might want to volunteer. Every day there is need, and every day there is a shortage of people to help with that need.”

The Red Cross is also offering free haircuts from Sports Clips to donors through September as a part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
