LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan Department of Corrections is being sued by the Human Rights Defense Center, which accuses MDOC of censorship.
The prisoner rights group says the department is censoring publications about the legal system and self-help books for inmates that they send to prisons.
The department’s mail policy allows for censoring items viewed as a threat to security or that interferes with someone’s rehabilitation, but the HRDC says none of their publications are out of line with the policy.
