LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Governor Whitmer has issued a proclamation naming August 25-31 as Black Breastfeeding Week.
The proclamation comes following a new partnership between The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and the Black Mothers’ Breastfeeding Association (BMBFA).
The purpose of the partnership is to promote the benefits of breastfeeding infants, as well as to reduce infant mortality rate, which affects African-American infants more than others.
In Kalamazoo, a special screening will be held for the film “Chocolate Milk: The Documentary” on August 29th as part of the promotion.
Additional screenings are scheduled elsewhere in Michigan with dates available online.
