LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Natural gas customers of what was once known as Michigan Consolidated Gas Company will be getting a small break soon on their monthly bill as a lingering byproduct of the Trump Administration’s corporate tax cuts.
On Tuesday, the Michigan Public Service Commission approved monthly decreases for DTE Gas customers totaling 333 million dollars, or 12.7 million annually. According to an agency statement, a residential customer who uses 10 thousand cubic feet of natural gas a month will receive a 58-cent monthly credit on their bill, beginning next month.
The commission made the ruling, “to reflect the impact lower federal corporate tax rates have on the company’s long-term investments,” in the MPSC statement. It’s the third such cut in rates as a result of the federal Tax Cuts and Jobs Act passed in late 2017 involving DTE Gas, with monthly refunds of $2.12 in May of 2018 and $2.21 last October.
