CONSTANTINE, MI (WTVB) – Alert neighbors may have prevented a tragedy Monday morning when a house burned down in the St. Joseph County village of Constantine.
The Constantine Fire Department says a house fire was reported at about 4:40 a.m. in the 100 block of East Third Street.
The owner was home at the time the fire broke out. Neighbors spotted flames coming from the structure when they reported the fire.
Constantine Fire Chief Mike Haydon says it appears the fire started in the area of a bathroom and laundry area on the first floor.
First arriving crews were greeted by flames coming the windows and doors. The blaze was knocked down within 25 minutes.
No injuries were reported. Haydon says the home owner has insurance on the structure and contents.
Firefighters were on the scene for about four hours putting out the hot spots.
