KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — If you received a speeding ticket lately, don’t get too frustrated. The money you paid for your ticket is actually going to positive use.
According to Kalamazoo County Treasurer Mary Balkema, each year Michigan county treasurers distribute penal fines to public libraries across the state based on the percentage of the county population living in each district.
For 2019, Balkema’s office distributed more than 300 thousand dollars in Kalamazoo County, which is up 11% from 2018, with the lion’s share going to the Kalamazoo Public Library.
