KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) – Kalamazoo Diocese Bishop Paul Bradley is asking all 59 Catholic parishes to devote special prayers during their Holy Day Masses Thursday to remember recent victims of violence.
He is asking that the entire Diocese designate the celebration of the Assumption of our Blessed Mother into Heaven as a day to pray for peace and an end to violence.
In a letter to the Diocese, the Bishop says “we have watched in horror as scores of innocent lives have been taken, or were forever changed, due to multiple acts of gun violence. Such unspeakable and indiscriminate taking of human lives reflects a troubling trend in our culture as we see the eroding of the value and dignity of all human life.”
He went on to say, “Even in the face of these despicable acts, we must remain a prayerful, faithful and hope-filled people.”
At least 31 persons were killed almost two weeks during mass shootings within hours of one another in Dayton and El Paso.
