KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Reggae legend Stephen Marley performed at Bell’s Brewery Tuesday night to entertain a nearly sold-out crowd.
The second son of Bob Marley’s performance was equal parts laid-back and lively.
Stephen brought his own children as opening support. His daughter Shacia Payne opened the show with a reggae DJ set, while his son Jo Mersa was direct support, performing a very high-energy setlist that got the crowd warmed up before Stephen.
Mersa would also make a guest appearance during Stephen’s show.
Besides his own hits, Stephen also performed a series of song covers by Bob Marley, including “Could You Be Loved,” illustrating the timeless appeal of his father’s music.
Another indicator of his enduring sound was the breakdown of crowd demographics – attendees appeared to be in just about every age range, starting from 21 and up.
Attendees were in very good spirits from the moment the doors opened, which did not have any hinderance through the night.
This stop in Kalamazoo was a part of Marley’s “Babylon by Bus” tour, which will continue on in St. Louis, MO Thursday.
