UNDATED (WKZO AM,/FM) – As the effort to keep the Asian carp from entering Lake Michigan continues, a new study indicates that if the predatory fish did make it into the Great Lakes, the food supply for it would be abundant.
The study, conducted by researchers at the University of Michigan, describes how Asian carp would not only flourish in Lake Michigan, but the amount of food available would allow it to spread to the other Great Lakes as well.
“This study on Lake Michigan reinforces the urgent need to take every step possible to prevent the spread of Asian Carp and invasive species,” Senator Gary Peters said of the study. “I remain committed to working with my colleagues to authorize the funding needed to act on Asian carp, protect Michigan’s fishing and boating industries and conserve our Great Lakes for future generations.”
