KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Environmental Protection Agency has provided an update on the PCB cleanup of the Kalamazoo River.
Jim Saric, a spokesman for the EPA, said that as the effort to remove PCBs continues…the end goal is still a long way off, and it could be another 15-20 years to complete the cleanup.
The probable cancer-causing agent was dumped into the river near the former Allied Paper site on Alcott, the area was designated a Superfund site in the 1990s.
Saric said that the total cost of the effort will reach 1 billion dollars or more.
