SOUTH HAVEN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The State of Michigan is investigating several cases of cyclosporiasis in Southwest Michigan.
Cyclosporiasis is a gastrointestinal illness caused by a small parasite. Symptoms take one to two weeks to appear, and can last for weeks if left untreated.
Eight confirmed cases, plus an additional 14 possible cases, all reported dining in Southwest Michigan beginning in June.
Current evidence suggests the Taste restaurant in South Haven may be a source of infection. The State says no improper handling of food at the establishment has taken place, and the restaurant is fully cooperating with the investigation.
Health officials are comparing different products purchased by several possible sources to indicate where the infections may have come from.
Citizens experiencing symptoms of cramps or diarrhea that have eaten at the Taste restaurant recently are advised to contact a doctor immediately.
