HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — National Weather Service meteorologists in Grand Rapids say we can expect extremely hot, humid days, with temperatures over 90 degrees and dew points around 70 degrees through Saturday.
Overnight lows above 70 degrees through this period will provide no relief for those suffering from the heat.
They are offering tips:
- Find air conditioning — if you don’t have it at home, check with family, friends, or visit the library, or another air-conditioned public space.
- Avoid strenuous activities.
- Watch for heat illness — symptoms include heavy sweating, rapid breathing, and a fast, weak pulse. If it is not treated, it can turn into heat stroke.
- Wear light clothing.
- Check on family members and neighbors.
- Drink plenty of fluids.
- Watch for heat cramps,muscle pains or spasms that happen during heavy exercise. heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
- Never leave people or pets in a closed car.
