HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A man died in a Casco Township traffic crash just before 9:45 p.m., Sunday, July 7, 2019.
Baseline Road is the boundary between Allegan and Van Buren counties. Officers from both the Allegan and Van Buren Sheriff Department responded to the scene, Baseline Road near 59th Street.
South Haven Area Emergency Services assisted. Police were called when a passerby spotted an overturned vehicle in a wooded area off the side of the road. A lone occupant was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene by the medical examiner.
Police believe the man had been westbound on Baseline and lost control, striking the side of a bridge and becoming airborne.
The vehicle landed upside down several hundred feet from the bridge.
South Haven firefighters used a Jaws of Life device to extricate the victim.
The crash remains under investigation.
