WAYLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) — Wayland Police Department is investigating a suspected sex trafficking ring and drug trade based at a home in that city’s 600 block of East Maple Street. Police, aided by Michigan State Police, FBI agents and Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies, raided the home at about 7 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2019.
Wayland police started the investigation in October, 2018, but evidence gathering dates back to 2017 according to a statement from Wayland police.
The search warrant is not the end of the investigation, Wayland authorities said, as many other leads on other crimes were discovered in the seized evidence. Officers seized suspected drug paraphernalia, and drugs suspective to be cocaine and heroin.
Police also confiscated a number of electronic devices, which hold suspected evidence of drug and sex crime violations, along with information on additional potential suspects. Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit officials are examing each device. The investigation is ongoing with charges are pending, according to police.
