BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) –Fort Custer Training Center, about seven miles west of Battle Creek, is not the government’s first choice for a new missile defense site.
The Department of Defense said that it’s top choice for a new Intercontinental Ballistic Missile interceptor is Fort Drum in New York state.
Republican Ccongressmen, including Jack Bergman, Bill Huizenga, Paul Mitchell, Fred Upton, and Tim Walberg, blame Rep. Justin Amash for not being picked, as he has consistently opposed defense spending bills.
Currently, there are no actual plans for a new missile site, but the department’s top choice will be looked at again if another interceptor is needed.
