KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Public Safety officers are searching for a driver that crashed into a utility pole and then fled the scene, leaving the injured passenger.
It occurred just after 6:30 a.m. Thursday in the 4300 block of South Westnedge Avenue near Kilgore Road on the border of Kalamazoo and Portage.
Officers say the driver was traveling southbound when they lost control, struck a utility pole on the east side of the road, and then fled the scene on foot.
A K-9 track was launched but the suspect was not located.
The passenger in the vehicle suffered minor injuries and was rushed to Bronson Methodist.
The crash shut down both sides of Westnedge for about an hour as Consumers Energy crews worked to repair the utility pole.
