PAW PAW TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A 3-year-old girl is dead after she drowned in a backyard swimming pool southwest of Paw Paw.
Van Buren County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to a home on Paw Paw Road west of 39th Street in Paw Paw Township just after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday and found the young girl unresponsive in the water.
Life-saving measures were attempted but the child was later pronounced dead at Bronson Lakeview Hospital.
Investigators are not considering the death suspicious and say the girl was a friend visiting the home and may have slipped away from the adult’s sight and into the pool.
Deputies are using this tragic incident to remind adults that they must keep an eye on children around the water this summer.
