OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Oshtemo Fire Department has one less fire truck in service for the time being after it was involved in a hit and run crash.
Crews were dispatched to a possible structure fire around 5:30 a.m. Thursday and was making a right turn with lights and sirens active when a driver attempted to pass the truck, smashing into its front bumper.
The driver took off but was later identified and cited by Kalamazoo County deputies.
Photos show the front bumper of the fire truck significantly damaged and they say the unit will be out of service for an unknown amount of time.
They’re also using this incident to remind drivers that it’s the law to pull to the right side of the road and stop when an emergency response vehicle is driving with their lights and sirens on.
