KALAMAZOO MI (WKZO AM/FM) – An employee of the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office is being investigated for possible embezzlement.
The employee, who was fired back in May, is accused of taking about $20,000 that was sent to inmates of the Kalamazoo County Jail by loved ones.
The employee’s name or additional details have not been released.
On Monday, the Michigan State Police Department released this statement:
“The Michigan State Police is currently conducting an investigation into aKalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office employee for allegations of embezzlement.MSP investigators are currently gathering facts and information regarding the allegedincident. The results of this investigation will be turned over to the Kalamazoo CountyProsecutor’s Office for review upon completion of the investigation. Based on thatreview, a determination will be made whether criminal charges are warranted.MSP officials stress that it is important to safeguard the integrity of the investigativeprocess to ensure a fair and impartial gathering of the facts surrounding the allegation.For that reason, additional comments will not be made.”
