HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — From dawn until dusk on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, Todd Whiteman will be working on his golf game. Or golfing for work. Actually, he’ll be doing both. Whiteman, executive director of Disability Network/Lakeshore, will be golfing at Clearbrook Golf Club, 6494 Clearbrook Drive in Saugatuck, to raise money for individuals living with disabilities in Allegan and Ottawa counties.
It’s his second year trying to golf 500 holes in one day, with the goal of raising $35,000. In 2018, he achieved 382 holes in 17 hours, raising $22,000.
Every dollar raised from Pars For a Purpose goes toward supporting independent living for individuals in Allegan and Ottawa counties. DNL services are free to area residents.
DNL invites guests to join the festivities at Clearbrook Tuesday, to enjoy live music, food, specialty drinks, and outdoor games, with periodic live updates from Whiteman on his progress.
For 27 years, Disability Network/Lakeshore has helped Allegan and Ottawa counties’ residents with disabilities find communities where they can participate, contribute, and belong — and have helped government offices and businesses become more accessible.
DNL’s staff includes specialists who understand how to navigate challenges faced by people with disabilities seeking homes, jobs, and recreation.
Most DNL employees have disabilities themselves, including conditions which are “invisible” (such as sensory or cognitive impairments and mental health concerns).
In 2018, DNL served more than 1,200 individuals, and is prepared to serve 1,500 in 2019.
To make a tax-deductible donation online through June 28, 2019, visit: pfap.info, or learn more about DNL here.
This year a pledge of $100 or more enters the donor into the Golf Ball Roll — a chance to win one of three experience packages. Pledges $100 or more will be assigned a number on a golf ball and placed in a large bucket. During the community BBQ on June 18, 2019, the bucket of golf balls will be dumped onto the ninth green. The closet 3 balls to the pin will win one of the three packages:
- New Holland Brewery Tour, Dinner & Drink Package
- Ripple Guide Service Fishing Trip Package
- Treetops Resort Stay & Play Package
