KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo City Commission has chosen their next commissioner.
After a couple hours of interviews between the 5 candidates and some time for public comment, the commission voted for Patrese Griffin. Griffin received 5 votes and there was also 1 vote for John McNeill.
Some of the questions during Monday night’s special meeting covered topics like the city’s budget, the Foundation for Excellence, poverty within the city, and what can the candidate bring to the many issues that were highlighted.
Griffin was sworn in Monday night and her duties will immediately begin at the next meeting.

KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Tonight Kalamazoo City Commissioners are expected to pick who will fill their vacant seat until the November election.
Last week, the board successfully narrowed their applicants from 15 to 5.
Those applicants are: Patrese Griffin, Megan Buwalda, Esteven Juarez, John McNeill and William Wells.
This comes after former commissioner Shannon Sykes-Nehring moved out of the city and resigned from her position.
The top 5 will be interviewed during a special meeting at 6 p.m. this evening and the next commissioner could be chosen immediately after.
