BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A couple of exotic animals are lucky to be alive after a fire in Battle Creek.
Crews were called to a two-story home on Bayshore Drive around 5 p.m. Thursday after a small fire broke out in the laundry room off of the garage of the home.
Firefighters quickly contained the blaze that sparked from a faulty surge protector which caused a heating lamp to catch a wooden cage on fire.
Two sugar gliders were rescued from inside the home and given oxygen.
Crews then ventilated the home to remove the remaining smoke.
No one on scene was injured.
