CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — After Saturday’s hail storm in parts of Southwest Michigan, residents are dealing with broken windows and damaged roofs, and scammers are swooping in.
CEO of the Home Builders Association of Western Michigan Jeff Tafel says they’ve received several reports in the Battle Creek area of unlicensed contractors going door to door offering their so-called “services.”
He says legitimate businesses are not selling themselves door to door right now because they’re so busy helping homeowners at their locations, they just don’t have the time.
He adds that it’s important to do some research, make sure the contractor has a permanent business location, a good reputation, etc.
A hiring checklist for an experienced builder or remodeler can be found on the Home Builders Association’s website.
