KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo resident is being crowned the Sweetwater’s donut eating champion.
On Tuesday the Salvation Army of Kalamazoo held their second annual donut eating fundraiser at Sweetwater’s on Stadium Drive.
David Morgan was the last contestant to register for the contest but came in first place, eating a dozen donuts in just over 9 minutes.
The contest also raised over $11,000 dollars for the Salvation Army’s local senior and youth programs.
The Kalamazoo Salvation Army will also be celebrating National Donut Day this Friday by delivering donuts to paramedics and other public service figures.
The Chicago Salvation Army established the day to honor women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War One.
The holiday has been celebrated on the first Friday of June since 1938.
