KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A church on Kalamazoo’s Northside is suspending one of their staff members after they were accused of sexually assaulting a child.
The allegations sparked last Thursday night after a girl told her mother that she was raped by someone at Stones Church on West Paterson Street.
Pastor Joel Brooks took to the church’s Facebook page, clarifying the rumors and confusion and promising transparency through the process.
He stated that, “one thing that I believe is that the only thing that gets rid of a lie is the truth…we let people know what the truth is because we feel we owe people that.”
This comes after the girl’s family showed up on Sunday and disrupted the service, posting flyers of the accused staff member on car windows, handing them out, and causing a disturbance.
Brooks says the unnamed, but “highly visible” staff member was immediately suspended and walked out to his car by two pastors after they were made aware of the allegation.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is now investigating the situation.
Stones Church has two campuses in Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo.
