BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – An angry mother whose eleven-year-old son was hit and killed by a Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputy last Tuesday is blasting the department and Sheriff Matt Saxton.
In her first public since the incident, Christina Valadez of Battle Creek says she has not been contacted by the deputy involved or Sheriff Saxton regarding the death of her son, Norm Hood.
But Saxton says his undersheriff has spoken to the family and has remained in contact with them, adding he is grieving for the family as a parent.
The attorney for the family says they have evidence the deputy was speeding when he hit Hood without his sirens or emergency lights on while the boy was on a motorbike.
The Michigan State Police are handling the investigation. Troopers say data from the police car’s black box includes the speed at impact, but they are not making that public yet.
