KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A suspect is in custody after an unusual early morning carjacking.
Kalamazoo Public Safety officers were called to the area of West Michigan Avenue and South Church Street just before 4 a.m. Monday after a victim said a man assaulted him and stole his van.
Officers located the stolen vehicle abandoned in the 500-block of West Michigan in downtown Kalamazoo.
They then received multiple calls about a man wearing only underwear in the 500-block of West South Street near the Vine Neighborhood.
The suspect, a 48-year-old Benton Harbor man, apparently got hung up in a fence when he fled the vehicle, which tore off his pants.
He removed his shirt and said it was stolen from him.
He was arrested for carjacking.
