ALBION, MI (WTVB) – An Albion woman who lost control of her kayak and was pulled underwater through a dam Friday has died.
The Albion Department of Public Safety says 56-year-old Betty Micheal was kayaking with a friend when she lost control of her kayak and the swift-moving water pulled her under through a nearby dam. It happened around 7:30 p.m. Friday near Monroe and Porter Streets.
Officers found the woman trapped under the swift flowing water, and worked to close the gates to the dam to free her. Micheal was then lifted from the river. CPR was begun before an ambulance took her to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital in Jackson.
Authorities say about 4:30 a.m. Saturday Micheal died at the hospital due to complications from the incident.
