MACKINAC ISLAND, MI (WTVB) – Michigan Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey wants to modify the state’s term limit constitutional amendment which was passed by voters in 1992.
During a panel discussion at the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Mackinac Policy Conference, Shirkey said he plans to work on a ballot proposal for the 2022 election to eliminate the limits.
He noted there are no longer incentives for people to serve as career politicians, as they don’t receive healthcare after leaving office and don’t get a pension.
