OTTAWA COUNTY (WHTC-AM/FM) — A semi-tractor-trailer and several other vehicles crashed on westbound I-96 just after 3 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2019, in Polkton Township, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Dill.
Police investigators found construction had slowed traffic, but a 45-year-old Ohio man, driving a semi-tractor trailer, saw that too late and was unable to stop in time, hitting vehicles in two westbound lanes.
The semi driver and a 28-year-old Muskegon woman who’d been in a car, were not hurt; a 56 year-old Haslett woman, went by ambulance to Spectrum Health Butterworth with back injuries but was in good condition, Dill said.
Both lanes of westbound I-96 were blocked for a short time following the crash until responders could clear debris and vehicles to open one lane. The crash remains under investigation.
