ALLEGAN COUNTY (WHTC-AM/FM) — Allegan County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a threat found in the Hopkins Middle School boys’ restroom on Friday, May 31, 2019
The note said “I will bomb da school” and was found written on a stall door.
The Hopkins Middle School administraors immediately evacuated the building, and contacted law enforcement authorities.
Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies as well as Gun Lake Tribal Police’s K-9 bomb unit responded to the scene, declaring the buliding safe just before 2:30 p.m.
In a statement emailed to media, Allegan County Sheriff’s officials said “Although we had no reason to believe this was a viable threat, all necessary safety precautions were taken to protect the students.
“Incidents such as this cause a major disruption to the school day and emotional distress to the students. These types of threats will not be tolerated.”
The statement noted that both school and sheriff’s officials “will work diligently to find out who wrote this statement and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.”

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Gun Lake Tribal Police as well as the Hopkins Area Fire Department.
