BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A young boy is dead after he was hit by a Calhoun County police cruiser that was responding to a burglary.
It happened around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday on Michigan Avenue near Lenon Street in Battle Creek.
Family members say that 11-year-old Norm Hood was riding a pocket bike when he was struck by the police cruiser that was heading to Springfield.
He was rushed to Bronson Methodist in Kalamazoo where he was later pronounced dead.
Calhoun County Sheriff Matt Saxton says the deputy did not have lights or sirens on.
The incident is being turned over to the Michigan State Police Department for a further investigation.
