HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Cass County Sheriff Richard J Behnke confirmed in a social media post that his office is investigating a fatality at Sparks Cedarlee Farms in Penn Township.
Just after 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2019, emergency responders were called to the farm, where they found 19-year-old Rocky Stoner dead by electrocution.
Investigators learned he’d been moving a metal roof truss with another employee using a forklift. Stoner was holding the metal roof and ther other employee was using the forklift when the truss touched a nearby power line.
The forklift driver immediately called 911 and began resusitation efforts.
Efforts by emergency responders on the scene and at Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac were unsuccessful.
The incident remains under investigation at this time.
