KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Nearly 1,400 girls are taking to the streets of downtown Kalamazoo Thursday evening for the 17th annual Girls on the Run 5K Celebration.
The excitement begins and ends at WMU’s Waldo Stadium, with the race kicking off at 6:30 p.m.
For those driving in the area, Oakland Drive between Oliver and Lovell will be closed starting at 4 p.m. as well as several other streets in the Vine Neighborhood.
Girls on the Run and Heart & Sole are 10 week after-school programs that helps 3rd through 8th grade girls learn how to live a healthy lifestyle both mentally and physically.
During the program they learn life lessons like how to choose good friends, stop bullying, take a breath when situations get difficult, turn negative thoughts into positive ones, and other important values that they can apply throughout their lives.
More information on the event can be found at the Girls on the Run Kalamazoo’s website.
