LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — A State Representative from Traverse City has been indicted by a Federal Grand Jury for allegedly extorting a labor group in exchange for his vote on the prevailing wage.
Republican Larry Inman has been stripped of his committee assignments and asked to resign from his office by the Speaker of the House.
Federal Investigators say he wanted the Carpenter’s union to make a $30,000 campaign contribution for his vote.
He is also charged with lying to the FBI and bribery. They say they have text messages he sent laying out the scheme, one ending with the phrase, “we never had this discussion”.
Inman says he plans to fight the allegations and restore his good name.
He could get up to 20-years if convicted.
