KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — This is Bike Week and Kalamazoo Area Police agencies will be collaborating on a joint enforcement operation to watch both drivers and cyclists to make sure they are following the rules of the road.
They say cyclists have to obey traffic signs, stick to their lanes and make sure they signal before making turns, just like motorists if everyone is going to be safe.
Drivers have to avoid speeding, distracted and aggressive driving and be careful in busy intersections.
New Michigan law requires drivers to give cyclists at least three feet of space when passing.
Area officers will be watching carefully for such violations this week.
Cyclists can find upcoming Bike Week events and more information here.
