UNDATED (WKZO AM/FM) — Everything old is new again. It hasn’t exactly caught on as a fad, but about 465 gas stations in Michigan are now selling pure gas from at least one of their pumps.
Almost all of the gas sold in the U.S. includes ethanol because it generates less pollution. Gasbuddy.com’s Patrick DeHaan says throwback gas works better in older vehicles, lawn mowers, boat motors, chain saws and snow blowers.
He says the “Boutique fuel” can cost up to a dollar more per gallon.
Stations offering the old-fashioned fuel are not easy to find.
In Kalamazoo County, only three gas stations sell the real deal, and two of them are off the beaten path, in rural Oshtemo and Cooper Townships, and the third is just south of I-94 on Sprinkle. No stations in Battle Creek offer the product. Coldwater has it at the CountryMark.
Holland has four outlets for the Ethanol Free Fuel. Allegan County only has one.
South Haven as three locations, two of them at marinas.
Benton Harbor has one distributor at the Pier 1000 Marina on Riverview.
2-Lansing gas stations have the pure gas, a BP Station on Pennsylvania and a Marathon on State. There are only three stations in Detroit and four in Grand Rapids that offer pure gas.
