KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A group calling itself SaveNazareth.com plans a protest this morning, opposing plans to demolish the Mother House on the old Nazareth Campus.
Louis Zemlick, a church deacon says he wants the Sisters of St. Joseph to give him a year to raise funds to save the historic structure.
He only found out about the demolition plans two weeks ago. But the Sisters of St. Joseph say they can no longer afford the upkeep.
Congregation President, Sister Kathy Brazda says over the last 5 years they have talked to 20 different groups about saving the buildings, and they couldn’t find anyone that was interested, because of the size of the building.
Zemlick’s group plans to demonstrate at 10:00 Monday morning at the old Nazareth campus.
The Sisters plan to commence with deconstruction this summer.
