COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Police do not believe foul play was involved in the death of a man whose body was found Sunday in a wooded area north of Coldwater near Jonesville and Union City Roads.
The dead man has been identified as 64-year-old Kim Allen Vanlandingham of Coldwater.
An autopsy was performed to determine the cause of death which was not apparent to investigators when the body was found. It will be several weeks before the results are known.
The body was discovered by the property owner who immediately contacted the authorities.
A State Police detective says Vanlandingham was reported as missing to Coldwater Police in February 2019.
It was not the first time Vanlandingham was reported as missing.
Police searched for him in November 2012. At the time it was said he suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and sought secluded areas such as the woods. He was considered extremely vulnerable to the chilly weather conditions.
It was believed he was headed towards the Traverse City area, based on his behavior. Vanlandingham was found safe and sound the next day in Marshall.
