KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — New rules will be in effect limiting the use of fireworks in the city of Kalamazoo before Memorial Day.
Last night Commissioners passed ordinance amendments cutting back the number of holidays that fireworks will be allowed, and changing when they can be displayed during those holidays.
The rules will be different for the various holidays and it would behoove amateur pyrotechnicians to learn them, because violations will mean a $1000 fine.
For Memorial Day, fireworks will only be allowed on the Saturday and Sunday nights before the holiday, and then only until 11:45 p.m.
City Attorney Clyde Robinson says lawmakers decided that since Tuesday was a school day that firing them off late Monday night would not be a good thing.
