KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — There were two big winners at this year’s Kalamazoo Marathon.
In nearly perfect conditions, thousands stepped off in five different races of various lengths on Sunday for the 9th annual Kalamazoo Marathon and 40th Borgess Run for the Health of It.
Over 400 participated in the Marathon.
Ryan Holtz of Clawson won, coming in almost 5 minutes ahead of the 2nd place finisher.
Perhaps even a bigger story was the first place finish in the women’s Marathon, won by Michelle McGagna of Portage.
She set a new women’s record for the Kalamazoo event with a time of 2:55.23, finishing fourth overall.
Christopher Pedi of Ann Arbor won the Men’s half-marathon, and Elizabeth Izor of Oxford, Michigan won the women’s half-marathon.
Our own morning news anchor Jeana Gondek came in 396th in the half-marathon and 9th in her age division.
